    Hi All,

I am new here, and really appreciate your help with this issue:

Recently I sent a 6 meg file to a friend who is using Outlook Xpress 6. That file never downloaded to his e-mail client, nor did the mail bounce back to me. Ever since, when he is downloading mail from his mailserver at Earthlink, he is pulling off mail from my "kauaisplash.com" domain, BUT mail from that domain won't show up in his inbox. With other words: Outlook Express is "receiving" mail form kauaisplash.com, BUT won't display the mail in the inbox [mail from other domains display in the inbox consistently] .

    Any advice?

Solutions that I consider at this point:
    - re-install outlook xpress
    - where is the default location of the outlook xpress install file?
    - how do I re-install and PRESERVE the existing data files?

Where can I set the "leave mail on server" command in outlook xpress?

    Thanks for all your help!
    Summary of Q's:

    - REINSTALLATION OF OUTLOOK XPERESS:
    1) If I "uninstall" then "reinstall" will the data files be lost?
    2) How do I re-install without loosing the data files?

    - SETTINGS QUESTION:
Where in the outlook xpress settings can I set that the mail is being LEFT ON SERVER when downloaded from the first e-mail client?

I know this is a mouthfull, but I am sure it's pretty basic for folks who use outlook xpress on a daily basis.

    I really appreciate your help!

    might be..

You might be suffering from a few things:
    1. The limit on most attatchments is 1-1.5 MBs
    2. you may be using a service thet the recieving ISP has marked as a "SPAMMER "
    3. your pal may be using spam blocking sofware and its blocking software and its blocking you
      [/list=1]

Just a shot, it could many other things, but its one place to try.

No as they settings are stored in another location, not in the Outlook Express folder.

Also the setting your looking for is insie your email accounts setup.

Its worded differently depending on your version of OE.

e-mail address "blocked" by ISP [Thank you Callanan!]

Your considerations are VERY helpful, Callanan.

My pal doesn't use any anti spam software.

So, I agree, I am being blocked, and I would suspect that I am blocked at the level of his ISP, which is Earthlink. I don't really see another level where my address could be blocked.

I have talked extensively to Earthlinks Customer Support, but they denied any blocking.

What supports their claim is that ALL MAIL SENT FROM MY DOMAIN [which doesn't download to his outlook xpress] is
CLEARLY VISIBLE in the Earthlink Mailserver. If they blocked my sender, would the mail still be arriving and being visible on their mailserver, but simply wouldn't be allowed to download? I start feeling that that is exactly what is happening.

I will send an e-mail to them now being more insistant.

Callanan, can you or anyone reading along here think of where else I could be blocked?

    INVOLVED ISP IN THIS CASE
    - my pal has Earthlink, who has bought up "thegrid" ISP
    - when I talked to the folks at Earthlink, they mentioned that there might be a "thegrid" based mailserver involved

I guess I just need to continue working through Earthlink...........

Thanks for any input that comes to mind.

    Aloha,

    Peter

    ...

Am I to assume your email server is your own??

By that I mean youre allowed to send attatchments lafrger then the normal limitations??

Or is your blocking occuring on all emails regardless of size or attatchments?

If your friend had a different ISP that was bought out by Earthlink, then that is a strong possibility where the error resides.

I have to agree with Callahan. Also, are you using hisname@thegrid.com email address, or using hisname@earthlink.com. Lots of ISPs were bought out by Earthlink and friends had to make numerous changes to their email account vial OE before they started getting their mail. It didnt affect all their mail, just some.

Also, tell your friend to read some of the links in this thread , very enlightening.

To clarify Callahan, go to tools, accounts, properties on the account in question, advanced tab. "leave copy on server" is there.

    EDIT:
Is there a chance that your mail is going direct to his deleted folder? If so, have him go into OE blocked senders list, you may be there and keep getting added even though he has not done it. This does occur, if so, I can give you the fix.

    thank you Aleekat

My name is Peter, Calahan was the other person helping out with resolving this complex Earthlink/thegrid e-mail blocking situation.

Aleekat, I appreciate that you confirm my concerns that there might be a "blockage" of my e-mail address at the level of "thegrids" mailserver, which might be somehow "preswitched" to the Earthlink mailserver.

What supports that notion is that the POP server my friend Bob is using is "mail.onemain.com" which doesn't sound like it is Earthlinks mailserver.

The challenging part in this is that Earthlink customer support hasn't been "hearing" what I have been asking and reporting. At least 3 of their techs didn't see a problem with sending a 6 meg file to Bob's address rfhansen@thegrid.net; which then seems to be forwarded to Bob's mail account at Earthlink. One tech mentioned that there is a second mailserver involved, but none of the techs offered to go and check if there was some blocking going on there.

I have now sent a detailed e-mail about all this to Earthlink customer support and we'll see if they "hear" what I am asking them to check.

    OE SETTINGS AND BLOCKED LIST
Thank you very much, Aleekat, for your guidance on how to check "leave mail on server" and to check if my mail to Bob end's up in the "delete" folder. Great point! Also, I will check if I am listed on the OE BLOCKED SENDERS, which might well be the case.

CALAHAN: You asked earlier about my mailserver: I am using a mailserver associated with my hosting account, and I am not aware that there is a limitation on file sizes to be sent. Maybe I need to check on that as well. Thank you again for all your input!

    Aloha,

    Peter

BREAKTRHOUGH: Msg. went to "delete" folder

    Hi Folks,

Here is what happens to mail which I send from the "blocked" sender-address to my friend Bob, via the Earthlink [and "thegrid" mailserver]

============> it ends up in the "DELETE FOLDER" in Bob's OE!!!

Here is now the million Dollar QUESTION:

Where can we change the OE setting that controls whether a piece of mail goes to the "inbox" vs. straight to the "delete" folder.

Thanks to all your great input, in particular Aleekat, who alerted me to check in the "deleted" folder!

    Peter

Have your friend go to tools, message rules, blocked senders list. Look for yours, and remove. If it winds up back on the blocked senders list without him adding it, post back. Had this issue on my mom's puter, fix involves reg edit..
