Hi, I'm faced with a peculiar problem not being able to re-install
any of the .NET Framework versions.

This is the error panel I get:
    It's a long story,but I'll shorten it :)

It all started with the October Windows Updates.
Some of the updates that would not install, were the .NET Framework security updates.Error as above.
Contacted M$.Was advised to uninstall all .NET components.
After doing that, the Windows Installer showed a corruption.
Uninstalled the Windows Installer, re-installed and re-registered it.
Then tried to re-install .NET , beginning with v 1.1.
    No luck.The same eror again.
When I advised the M$ agent about this and even sent a sceenshot, I was told by the agent that he didn't have experience with XP
and that was the end of that. No further response from Microsoft.

Mind you, I run an OEM version of XP Pro, so that makes me a 2nd class citizen right off the bat :) Since the focus had shifted from a failure of Windows Updates to the Windows Installer and .NET installation, support was ended immediately.

I tried setting permission for that key - giving full control to the Administrator as well as for myself. No luck.

I'm not sure what to do next. Obviously, all apps that need .NET no longer work, so I'm in a bit of a mess.

Has anybody come across this or knows how to solve this dilemma? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pete.

    Hi Charles,

    Thanks for you response.
I went through most if not all of the threads, posts what have you.
They pretty well all describe what I went through before.
Unfortunately in none of them was my problem mentioned.
I also got the same email from M$.Looks like they just sent out a form letter,
in which the support person's details are filled in.
    For the rest it's identical.
reading all this,I wonder how many thousands of people struggle(d) with this.

Like I said,I managed to uninstall and remove all .NET components,
dealt with the Windows Installer issue etc., but reinstall is impossible
due to the Registry access problem.

I even went into the GPE (Group Policy Editor) and gave the Windows Installer
elevated privileges.(Both-for the System as well User). No luck.

System Restore won't work since I have no dates left to set it back to.
Also,by removing everything .NET, you're cutting deep into the system
and a restore won't work anyway.I found this out a long time ago.

To be honest.I'm at a total loss.
There must be some way to let the Windows Installer access that Registry key
or find out what's blocking the access.
I tried all I could think of.
