I have a SanDisk 32GB thumb drive. It has 29.5GB left, and I want to put a 4GB file on it.
Says not enough room on the drive. I'm guessing that the Secured access takes up most of the drive?

The computer I'm putting it on, doesn't recognize the vault, so I want to put it in the unsecured part.

Is the problem why I can't get 4GB's on 29GB's, the secured area takes up to much room?

Is there anyway to change how much room it takes up? Or, is there another reason?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Hi happydog500, Capacity of the device (as reported by many operating systems) does not match its label
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/46/kw/what is the capacity of a 32GB flash drive

This Sandisk site is very useful for getting answers to storage questions. I would say that if you were trying to save 32GB's to a 32GB Flash drive - you would not get all 32GB's saved.
Most Flash drives have about 512MB's used for boot/setup. It's explained better by Sandisk. Cheers Neil.

Probably, as was stated, a file system problem. Fat32 cannot do 4GB files.

Did you see Scandisk's recommendation when using NTFS with Flash drives that you use the MS Safe to Remove procedure to ensure that data is not lost? Neil.

I emailed ScanDisk to query the capacity shown and received this reply:
Please be informed that SanDisk 32GB Flash drive is showing correct capacity. This is a normal phenomenon. It is computer operating system which shows this capacity.
Please note, all the 32GB memory devices show approximate 29.5GB . This is not a case with SanDisk devices. It is applicable with every brand and it is universal.
You can also refer the link to know why it is showing you less capacity for the same : http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/46
This may be of help to others as well. Neil.
