I have a few XML files on my computer that I'd like to be able to open to see what they contain. I am asked to use the XML editor but I don't think I have that software, at least it's not working.

I looked on line and there seems to be so many different kinds of XML apps, I'm not sure what I need. I can't find an XML viewer for a Microsoft Office 2010that might work in Windows 10. Have they made one? Or is there another one someone could recommend?

Right click on one of the files and select "Open With."

You should see options like IE, MS Word etc.

Yes I picked XML editor but it didn't open it. It tells me to associate file in default programs. I added a picture to show what I see in the list of file associations.

This is some of what I get. Doesn't mean anything to me. Is that what it's supposed to look like?

Depends on the file and why it was written - but yes the file resemble code.

It's some of the settings of one of my apps exported to my documents. I checked them all and they all look like that example I posted.

I think something happened to my XML editor. It should open them but when I choose it as the program, it asks me to associate it, even though it already is. I guess I can just use internet explorer to view them.

It actually makes a little more sense when it comes to deciphering it when opened in notepad.

It's still strange that the XML editor doesn't work.

    FWIW:

An XML file is a plain text file, that's the extent of its contents. It can be opened in any editor capable of opening a TXT file. The difference between how programs display it is that some will color highlight the tags <TAG>.

Any XML file can be dragged into a program window, bypassing any user default application preferences.
