    Hello,
Lately I'm having trouble opening folders or sometimes just certain files in folders. For instance I have several folders on a HD that contain pictures (JPEG). Two of the folders I can open and use with no problem but the other two I have trouble opening (sometimes they won't open) and I can see the thumbnails but can't open the pictures, or I can open some of the pictures but when I scroll down and back up they won't open. I have a few folders that won't open at all. I have run AVG and normally run it at least once a day. I keep all scanners (virus and ad ware) up to date every evening. There are some things on this drive I would like to recover but I'm not sure what I'm dealing with. This drive is just used for storage (maybe 3 years old Western Digital 120 G). Any thoughts for a starting place would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    D.E.

They may be flagged as read only. Right click the files, click Properties, uncheck Read Only.

Start by running chkdsk. Then run a defrag.

Ok, I ran Disk Check on my F drive (real slow). It didn't finish but I needed to do some things. I found that some of the folders were accessible that were not before. Some of the files were fixed also. I moved the files and folders that I could and deleted some folders I couldn't delete before. I'm letting Disk Check run again (maybe for a couple of days or more). I'll post back when I have more results.
