For the first time ever, I backed up the files on drive C. I put them on a 60GB Flash Drive. They downloaded as XML DOC. And 1 File downloaded as LHD File. When I tried to open them, Message "you are not authorized to open this file." Is there an easy way to open these files?:

Which method did you use to backup the files?

Odds are you'd have to use the restore function...

Hi cbumpkin. Did you just copy and paste the files onto your flash drive or did you use a program to backup your data?

    Can't open back up file

    Evan Omo:
I wanted to back my files up in case of a crash. I inserted a 60 GB Flash Drivec clicked " back up Drive C ". they went to the flash drive, (Drive D) and left Drive C intact. I tried to open Drive D, and it said I wasn't authorized to open this file. "click continue to open" I clicked continue and a blank page came up.
The Flash Drive Propertys show approx. 43GB used an approx. 17 GB clear. do I have a problem or not? this is the first time my PC has ever been backed up.
    Best regards, cbumpkin

Right but how did you backup the files exactly? Did you use the Windows Backup Utility or another method?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the backed up files generally aren't meant to be accessed and opened...You could break them and defeat the purpose of making a backup.

Use the Restore function if you need some or all of the files.

Your other option is to simply do a Copy and Paste to your flash drive.
