Have search the site and haven't found an answer so he is my problem.

Shutdown computer after 10 days to reinstall a tv card. On bootup received a black screen with normal white text saying
corrupted or missing file at /winnt/system32/config/system

The text is written over the top of other text, something like run console from cd and press R to try to repair.

This happens also in safe mode

And of course I have stuffed emergency repair disk that tell me they are not formatted

Any ideas how to repair or fix

Tried the repair option on the cd and it came back, nothing to repair

    Hope sombody can help

Hopefully you have removed the hardware that seemed to cause the problem.

And I gather you can't get the thing to properly start and load the OS in either normal or safe mode.

As much specifics of the error message as you can read would help.

First thing is to get into the BIOS and look around for any obvious nonsense. Hard drive shrunk to a fraction of the size you know it is. Odd values for other settings. Whatever. If you see something you question, post back with what it is and specifics on your system.

Next try booting to the CD to the recovery console again. The command line section. Then chkdsk /r. That is the mildest possible "fix" and may well work. Post back with results if not.
