    I installed SP2 on XP Home the other day, and now nothing I do can make IE go back to using google as the default search engine.

    Trust me, I've done all the registry edits necessary, and I've followed the autosearch protocol (which *does* list "google sites" as the default search engine). But still, everytime I hit the search button I get msn search.

    Any suggestions?

    Hmm - see what you mean :}

    Try the Google Toolbar - works a treat and incorporates a very effective popup stopper.

    If you try the Google toolbar it has a setting in it's options to set Google as your default search engine in IE. In the toolbar click on options. You'll find it on the "more" tab.

    Thanks, guys, but I'd rather avoid putting another toolbar in.

    I cannot believe thyere is NO way to reset google as the default search engine in SP2's IE 6.

    Thanks, but been there and done that.

    Really, I've checked everything via regedit. I can't figure it out.

    Ooops, I take that back ... I just recked the registry and found that I neglected to change the "search bar" value although I did everythinmg else.

    Me sorry. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

    Oh yes. A perfect example of user stupidity rather than Windows obscurantism. Thanks guys.
