I am unable to reinter a few contacts that I had previously deleted. As I begin to type the email address it brings up their whole name plus the email address and when I finish it all it leaves in is the name plus a semi colon, no address. Office 7

I assume you are using Outlook 2007?

This may not help (I'm scratching my head here), but have you tried to compact the database in you pst file? You can accomplish this in Control Panel > Mail (32 bit) > Data Files > Settings > Compact Now. It's good idea to compact this file every so often. Compacting the pst file can help shrink its size after items have been deleted such as unwanted contacts, discarded emails, etc.

Your pst file may be corrupted. Follow this link for more info...

How to use Inbox Repair tool to repair pst file in Outlook

You can use the supplied Microsoft Fixit tool, or you can locate Scanpst.exe yourself by navigating to the locations below...

    Outlook 2007
    32-bit Windows C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
    64-bit Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12

Once you find Scanpst.exe, open it and let it repair your pst file.

The only other advice I can think of is to run the Office 2007 diagnostic tool located in the start menu under Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

If that doesn't help, then try repairing Office via add remove programs (Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features). Highlight the Office 2007 installation, right-click and choose "change" and wait for the repair option to appear.

Failing that, it make take a complete reinstall of Outlook or even the entire Office suite to fix your problem. I hope these choices can be of some help to you.

EDIT: I found some more .pst repair tools at this link if you need more options...

What happens when you edit the contact and type what you need to type?

tried several of the suggestions you made including reinstall. When I did that other things went awry, so I uninstalled Office 7 completely and installed open office 4 and thunderbird, working just fine now.

What about you old contacts? Were you able to export them to the new software?

Bummer. I hate you had to give up on your purchased MS Office suite. :( Looks like a reinstall would have fixed things unless the pst file was beyond repair.

I make a habit of copying my pst file every so often and storing it in various USB drives.

Maybe you could create a new pst file and import your data into it later on if you decide Open Office just doesn't cut it for you. Seems like I had to do that myself when I was running MS Office 2003. I should have shared that option with you beforehand.

I feel lucky that Open office was around plus Thunderbird. They are not bad at all. Thanks though for the info, maybe next time.
