Hi, I have a host and a client both running XPpro and ICS. The client was having trouble accessing certain sites and after searching for a solution I finally stumbled onto your fix for decreasing MTU values. This solved most of my problems. I can now access all websites from the client but if I go to a page that asks me to log in that is impossible! For example, I can open the page www.aol.com but if I try to log in to check mail it simply won't process. I get forwarded to a screen that asks me to log in again. This happens on all sites requiring a log in. My kids visit www.neopets.com and they are experiencing the same issue.... completely unable to get through a log in page.
We use Verizon DSL that requires a winpoet pppoe setup. Our pc's are networked via crossover cable. There are no firewalls installed on either machine and I have turned off every security feature I can find trying to solve this (ie. Accept all cookies) and I just can't figure it out. Why ... when all is working fine, can I not log in to a favorite site??? I hope theres a pc God out there that can help this damsel in distress!

Can't help with your specific problem but do have a suggestion.

You will probably have lots more fun and fewer headaches if you get rid of ICS and get a DSL router/switch. I use one from LinkSys and it was the best $90 I've spent in quite a while.

Then, regular cables from PC to switch and DSL connection to the router as well.

It will take care of keeping your PCs networked, will give you a faster DSL connection, and end world hunger (well, maybe not the hunger part :D).

Easy to do the setup your ISP requires too. Take a look Here and toward the bottom of the page where there are instructions for both Verizon East & West.

I suspect you can then go back to the optimum MTU settings as well.

Thanks for the advice, Newt. Have to say, I started feeling nostalgic after reading your post. You remind me of my first husband... I was hoping for a God and ended up with a Geek! ;) ;) ;)
