I have this Tyan S2060 MB, Intel 815ep chipset. 800 mh cpu,aan NVIDIA Gforce 2 MX400 Video Card.

The problem is after I installed XP Pro, I ran the drivers for this MB 1st. However, I can't locate a display device in the system hardware area anywhere. I went back to update the . inf drivers to 5.0. I also am having some problem conflicts that would normally clear up when these drivers would be installed. PCI bus, VGASAFE. When I go to the Video area, no display device is mentioned at all anywhere. I tried to load in new hardware. Again, doesn't show up. I have re-installed these drivers a number of times, same problem. I set the video at 800x600 res, hi color 32 bit. Don't know what else there is to do.

    Help

    Boot to safe mode!

    Device manager

    view-show hidden devices

remove any references here to this video controller

look for any device in error and remove

any "Unknown devices" look for question mark and remove these

reboot, hopefully they will reinstall correctly

I took your advice and went to the device mgr-hardware-view hidden devices. and NON-PnP DRIVERS including the VGASAVE. I also made a copy of the conflicts that are showing up in the system information. I tried to disable VGASave but when I went to re-boot it completely shut off the video. I then went to f8 and got it going again..
Here is a copy of the conflicts:
    I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller

    Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
    Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF VgaSave

    sharing conflicts
    NO DISPLAY ADAPTER

Opened View-Hidden Files-no display device. only Network Adapters, and a great deal of non-pnp device drivers. It seems they took over. NO ??? MARKS ANYWHERE. It seems that all is well, and I know its not. Very strange.

    Morning Don

    Just got up. First coffee!

Do you have a full verified backup.? Don't try removing any more untill you do! Go to manufacters site and D/L the newest versions of both M/B Chipset and video.

It really sounds to me like the MB drivers are whacked.
What brand of video controller do you have?

What other removeable adapter cards do you have pluged in? Modem and sound card?

After a backup, remove the case then remove any cards except the video, unplug all printer and USB cables.

Do not let it boot to full mode but F8 to safe mode. Remove all these devices and the two conflicts you mentioned last. Change the view to see the hidden to be sure.

    Now reboot to full.

The backup is not important because i have them on floppy's. Only documents files anyway. No real major programs, since all the problems started.
    Anyway, a list of Cards
    1. NVidia GGorce2MX400 64MB AGP from eVGA
When i try to load these drivers from the CD, it comes up Device failure. because the card is not recognized.
    2. Creative SB 5.0 Live
    3. Dial up Modem
    No USB connetions
    Intel Celeron CPU 800m
    256mb Memory
    Tyan S2060Tomcat MB Intel 815epChipset .

If you can get a chance go to the www.Tyan.com site and look at the drivers. I can't find the S2060MB drivers. I downloaded the Intel .inf drivers
    Intel chipset drivers
graphics drivers look like ver 6.13.01.3004 for the intel 815ep for XP & W2k

What do u mean by saying take the case apart? There is no printer, USB, or anything attached right now.
I dont know if the BIOS IS OK but i am not smart enough to FLASH THE BIOS without ******** it up.

Should I remove the modem, and the audio card? There is nothing else left only the video card

What controller do I have? Good question. what should i look for? and is this in the device mgr under systems.
Will try anything you suggest? if i know what exactly to do. Can't ***** it up any more than it is.

    Regards

Lol! If you didn't say it you thought it!! Hee hee.

Ok Don when I asked about the controller I meant the Video controller.

    I don't understand.

If you have a "NVidia GGorce2MX400 64MB AGP from eVGA" then these are the Video graphics drivers you should use. But you said you installed

    Quote
"Intel chipset drivers graphics drivers look like ver 6.13.01.3004 for the intel 815ep for XP & W2k "
    Unqoute

If you have an NVidia then you do not want Intel Graphics drivers. Those are for an Intel Video.

All mother boards will take a Video Graphics adapter as an expansion card. Almost all now have an onboard video controller also.

BUT!!!!! If it does have an Adapter pluged in like the NVidia then the onboard one has to be disabled in BIOS.

The reason you may have both is that the onboards are mostly basic Video contollers. To get much higher performance Video you add a adapter that is faster etc.

SO! If you have an onboard Video controller and an Adapter then you need to:

    1. Go to BIOS and find Onboard Video and turn it off

    2. From this boot to safe mode again and remove all video adapters it shows.

    3. Uninstall the Intel Video drivers from Add/Remove. Also if it does show NVidia uninstall these also so it can do a clean install!

    4. Reboot and now hopefully it will detect the Nvida and allow you to install the drivers.

About the modem and sound card. To help simplify things I would physically remove them from the case before doing the above. Better chance od sucess.

I will try what u suggest and get back to you.

I am also having some crazy things happening to the computer I am on. Like in w2000 I want to install ghost but it says I must go to a Dos Prompt. I went to the 1 in the os, but won't do. Itsays will not work in NT. Says I should reboot and go to a dos prompt. OK but in w2000 at f I cant find a way to go to a dos prompt without safe mode. then the drivers are not installed to install a cd program. Am I missing something?

    MIKE
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP SO FAR.
You have been very patient. Now, I disabled under GMCH CONFIGURATION:
Internal Graphics Mode Select The default was enabled but I Diabled it.
When I rebooted in safe mode, to devices, i deleted a number of things. then rebooted and it reloaded. Low and behold I saw the NVidia card. I installed the drivers from my cd, and it said to me that the drivers are not signature drivers do i wish to continue, i said YES.
nOW i STILL THINK THE DRIVERS ARE MS, BUT WHEN I GO TO DEVICE MGE I SEE THE CARD. wHEN i GO TO THE SCREEN FOR ADVANCE, i SEE THE CARD. However, the card show up with the MS driver versions not the cards. Now I went to system Information and discovered CONFLICTS.could it be that the drivers on the card is still not right?

    donabano,

What you see under conflicts/sharing are in fact shared resources - there would appear to be no conflicts.

Compare conflicts/sharing on my m/c (VIA Chipset, not Intel):

    I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller

I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
    I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF Matrox Millennium G550 - English

IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller

    IRQ 16 Matrox Millennium G550 - English
IRQ 16 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
    IRQ 16 SupraExpress 56i

IRQ 17 VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
IRQ 17 Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM)

Memory Address 0xF4800000-0xF5DFFFFF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
Memory Address 0xF4800000-0xF5DFFFFF Matrox Millennium G550 - English

    Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF Matrox Millennium G550 - English

I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB VIA CPU to AGP Controller
    I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB Matrox Millennium G550 - English

All looks a bit similar - quit worrying if everything is working now!:)

Anything under Problem Devices in system information?

Pete is correct there appears to be no conflicts, if there were it would be listed in (conflict) with each device.

You have NVidia drivers, even if from microsoft. You see M$ gets all drivers from the mfg/oem anyway. The only drivers M$ has are generic VGA drivers.

The message "are not signature drivers" only means that M$ has not certified them.

They may have not certified them because NVidia didn't pay them to do so. You see a hw mfg/oem has to pay M$ to certify its drivers which can be costly and time consuming. So many many do not do it. Basicaly NVidia is saying "we know our drivers are good so why pay M$ and wait for them to get arround to it ".

So if it works, all features and all resolutions are enabled then it is fixed.

    Case closed! OK?
