Can't load Contacts to email from T-Bird

Hello, I haven't used Thunderbird E-mail for awhile. I downloaded ver 3.1.6 and it installed and works fine. The only problem is that when I say Reply to a e-mail and I click a contacts name to load int TO:, Reply: or BCC it will not appear in the email I see that there is a new thing in say a Reply that says at the top left where contacts would appear it says Reply to my name shows but I can't add the person I want the e-mail to reach...

Hello Scout & thanks for the Reply! I am double clicking the contacts but they are not showing up in New or Reply or Fwd e-mails ????????? When the Contacts are on the "side" of e-mail the only time loading the address's into the e-mails are when they show " "Personal Address Book "or "Collected Address's ". I can double click or highlight and click To: BBC: or Cc: It will not work under "Contacts" ??
