I built a computer with one of my high school students. The box seems to work fine, but we cannot get Windows XP to install on a wiped HD. When the machine is supposed to boot up after Windows XP's blue hardware screen, it either doesn't re-boot or it gives me an error code: "STOP: c0000221 unknown hard error \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll "

What is going on?! I have a school provided XP OEM disc, and some Win2k discs to use. What do you suggest?

    Thanks!

Hi jg - Welcome to the Board :)

As I understand it there are OEM disks - and OEM disks. Some OEM disks will only install on PC's having a certain hardware configuration as specified by the PC manufacturer who supplied the OEM disk. This may be the case here.

A Google search for that specific error message " STOP: c0000221 unknown hard error \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll" brings up a lot of hits which may point the way to a solution.

This hit gives disabling DMA on the CD-RW as a solution - no doubt there are others.
