I suggest you downgrade to Windows XP. If you still have your old Computer, it should have its Key already written on there, so just use it. If not I would suggest that you check with the Plug and Play options and then read the Manuel to the Computer, Mouse, and USB Drive and see if the Mouse and USB Drive are Vista Compatable.

Try using Start -> Computer, right-click on the installation CD and select Explore. Find the main installation program (Setup.exe?), right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator ". [Also on the CD, you should also see a manual or instructions, check those.]

Since I expect the keyboard and mouse are USB (along with the USB stick), the problem may be the USB drivers. Check for a drivers CD that came with the computer and that the main drivers have been installed from that. You can go to Control Panel -> Device Manager, highlight and uninstall anything listed as Controller under the heading Universal Serial Bus Controllers, they will be automatically reinstalled when you reboot.

If you have many other USB devices connected, it may be starting to overload the USB power system. If you think so, you can get a self-powered USB hub.
Are you using USB ports at the front of the computer? Use those at the back, at least for keyboard and mouse connection.

If you have happened to have turned off UAC (User Account Control) try turning it back on.

    Matt
