Our server recently crashed, and I have now re-installed NT, SP 6a, MS Updates, and the drivers. I alos managed to install the e-mail software, but now when I try to re-install more programs, I get an error message "Windows installer Service could not be accessed. It says it could be becuase it was not installed correctly, but how do you install the installer service, except as part of NT? This is very urgent, because I am unable to load McAfee or our accounts software on the machine.

The original probelm occured after burning a CD. It had originally been used by an HP burner, and Nero said it was an unrecognised file system. It still went and burned the new files tho. After, the files couldn't be found on the CD, so I re-burned them. Everything else on the disk disappeared, but the new stuff was there. However, after that, whenever I tried to open any program, it would simply freeze.

One good thing to come of this - my boss is now sold on having rescue disks for the servers! C'est la vie, n'est pa?

As always, all advise/suggestions/etc. are appreciated.
