On startup, I get a message that my network adapter is not working properly. Device Manager says not working properly or not all drivers installed (code 10), but clicking update driver tells me the best driver is already installed. It searches the win98 cd and the floppy labeled "3com fast etherlink xl pci adapters" which is indeed the adapter listed in the device manager. Network and Add New Hardware cps give me the same runaround.

Try clicking on the "Installed drivers" or "driver detail" tab and getting the location and name of the driver files. Then go manually delete or rename all of them. Then reboot and let Windows reinstall the drivers from your floppy or wherever you choose to get them from.

Sometimes Windows doesn't have enough sense to know it has corrupt files. If the above works, you can of course delete the renamed driver files.

I did that and it installed from both the floppy and the windows cd and said "finished installing updated driver for this device." On restart I now am told 'Windows cannot load ndis.vxd that loads the devices' drivers. To fix this, run win setup from the cd. "

Ok, but what part of windows setup does it want me to run? I see the standard list of accessibility, accessories, etc. Clicking 'have disk' gives me a blank list of components.
