A year or so ago I installed Netscape 7.0 (on a d drive on an earlier HD, I believe) but then removed it on the advice of a friend and returned to NS 4.72. I believe I upgraded my HD after that point, and now run only a c: partition. In the process of installing my old programs on the new HD, I carried over some files from the old HD, and reinstalled most programs. I can't remember exactly what I did.

I have now decided to install NS 7.1 but have run into a problem barely out of the gate--the install program is asking me whether to install at d:/program files/Netscape/Netscape and I don't have a d drive anymore! That wouldn't be a problem, except that when I click on the "Browse" button, the install program freezes.

Any idea where on my computer the install program is picking up this old and outdated information, or how I can fix it? Is it in the Mozilla cache? Any idea what I can do to tell it I don't have a d drive anymore?

    Tx,

    Mshep

    Welcome to the Forum, mshep!

    Hi mshep,

If you no longer have a D:\ drive, then my guess would be that there is a Registry key somewhere that is trigggering the problem. However, without knowing what you copied over from the old HD, it's almost impossible to pinpoint the problem. Do you run any Versions of Netscape, other than Communicator 4.72? Do you have any Mozilla Releases installed?

If you are comfortable with the Registry, then run regedit and do a find for Netscape and Mozilla. Look for any references to the D:\ drive. Let us know what you find.

    Ramona,

You got it! I'd installed 7.0 and uninstalled it months ago, and the uninstall was really incomplete--the registry had about 9000 d:\...\netscape\netscape entries. I took a chance and changed them all to "c:" etc, and it fixed the problem immediately.

    Thanks for your help.
