The photos that I saved on discs when I had WIN XP won't now import into my new WIN 7 computer. Is that normal? If it is, then I have no access to all those old family photos.

When I try, Windows says the disc is full at 510KB, and I get:this lineup on the contents:
    Autorun, setup info, 1KB
    UdfrChk, app, 33KB
    udfrinst.zl, ZL file, 379KB

I've tried this with 3 discs that I saved and even one that my son-in-law saved. They all worked fine on my old computer with WIN XP. I hope someone can offer some answers.

How are you trying to import the images ? Did you use any backup program to backup the images to the disks ?

No, as I recall, I just burned the photos to the discs.
Just now, I inserted a disc with a slide show that I created with Roxio Easy Creator 10, and that played! I was able to open and play it with Windows Media Center, but I can't find a way to view the photos on those other discs the same way.

The disks are they CD or DVD, do you have the same program on your Win 7 machine that you used to save the photos to the disks.
Have you done a right click and used "Open With" selecting your favorite photo program. Try installing Irfan View or Photo Space both free programs.
Googles Picasa is also an excellent free photo management program.
Try and give us some more information as to what you are using to import.

    I'll try Picassa

The discs are CD-Rs, and yes, I have tried right-clicking and "Open With." I'll try Picassa. Thank you for responding.

I installed Picassa and tried to import from the CD-R disc in drive D, and it says there are no photos available.

This then sounds very much like that you have used a specific program to save (backup) your photos, otherwise Picasa would open them.
As an example Picasa will give you two options to save your photos, one is so that you can view them on any computer as .jpec files or as a complete backup and they are not saved as . jpec and you will only be able to restore them using Picasa. That also brings me to the question what file format where they saved onto the CD, did you use perhaps Nero to burn them to the CD, then you might have to use Nero again to restore them and then save them as TIFF (lossless) or jpec (lossy) format. Try and remember what burning program you used.

You probably burned a "Photo Disk ". Not the same thing as just buring the photo's to the disk.

Your "Foto" CD was most likely made with an old version of an old writing system called Direct CD.

To see and copy the files from your old disc you will need to either
    • Read it in the system which created it
    • Use a program such as Isobuster from isobuster.com. These programs can usually recover data from this type of disc.

    IsoBuster

IsoBuster worked, thank goodness. Thank you for suggesting it.
