I am using a wireless connection to connect an XP pro laptop to a Win 98 Desktop.

I can share the DSL connection fine but cannot seem to get file and print sharing to work. I went through the Xp setup process and it did not work. All names are correct and I have enabled sharing of the appropriate drives/folders but still the computers do not see each other.

The only other variable I have is that I do use Zone Alarm as my firewall, but it is only installed on the desktop at this point. As far as I know I have taken all needed steps to network the two computers but cannot seem to get the file and printer sharing to work.

Any ideas? I am fairly new to networking so I do not even know where to look now.

    Thanks

You need to have the PCs all with the same workgroup name, it can be anything (normall just WORKGROUP). Then make sure on your Zone Alarm pro that you have your local network IPs trusted.

You should work fine at that point.

One more thing you will need Microsoft Cleint on the WIN98 machine and you must logon to the 98 machine with the same username/password of an account on the XP machine as XP uses NT authentication. Now you can enable the guest account on XP and then make the shared for everyone and there should be no authentication problems at all, just make sure your firewall always stays on!
