When I hit F8 at boot up, I get a Boot Menu, not the Start Up Menu. Don't know what I did but how do I undo?? Thanks, Larry

Just the usual Boot Menu choices like Floppy Disc, which HDD, CD-ROM, Legacy Lan (?), etc. There is no next window choice, just how to move around the menu and exit F4.

Is is a blue color menu giving the impression of a CMOS program, not a text only DOS-like menu.

    Wait a few seconds longer.

Certain BIOS will bring up the boot menu if any key is struck a during post.

Allow it to post 'count memory etc" try after that but before Windows.

Actually, I just did it again and the boot up screen at the bottom says to hit F8- Boot Menu! Of course, it also says to hit DEL for the CMOS program. Got to go to work, be back later. Thanks!!

When I do things like that, my brother tells me, "You simply must quit getting your glasses at the funeral home." :D

Mflynn, you were right on. Earlier it gives a Boot Menu, later (but not too late) the standard Start Up menu of choices. Thanks!!

guess the control to get into your bios panel is F8 on your brand
    Try F5
If you have to remove a piece of hardware
    easier is start > run > msconfig > boot.ini ( 4th from the left)
    Check /safeboot
Just remember to uncheck the box after you are through

If you get a particularly stubborn system, you can use a Safe Mode Boot CD or floppy to make it a little more sociable. I use these as handy tools for Safe Mode booting of any system without regard to special keys and timing required. It also has a higher degree of safety since the boot.ini file of the system is not altered. Sometimes that can get you locked in a Safe Mode boot refusal loop that is hard to correct unless you have some hot licks.

Download and unzip this file to produce an iso file that can be used with your burner software to create the Safe Mode Boot CD:

Download this executable file and double click it. Follow the screen directions to create a Safe Mode Boot Floppy:

I've used this free utility for this purpose: http://www.superadblocker.com/bootsafe.html

Be sure to launch it in Safe Mode and tell it for the next reboot to be Normal - otherwise you'll stick in Safe Mode.

FWIW - with Asus boards, the time for pressing F8 to get into Safe Mode is hard to find. I'd suggest trying to press F8 as the BIOS finishes loading and just before the Windows loading stuff starts - that's what worked with my Asus boards.
