Can't get rid of "Virus Removal wizard" pop up

    Hi, I've been trying to rid myself of some smitfraud spyware, but I'm not getting all of it because I keep getting the same two pop-ups. "Spyware removal wizard" and one that tells me all my browsing is being tracked and so on. I have followed the smitfraud removal instructions that were posted already. I'm attaching my Smitfraud log file and my hijack this log. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Your SmitfraudFix log indicates that nothing was deleted, so presumably nothing was found originally in the scan stage?

    Please download and install the 30 day trial version of Ewido Anti-Spyware

    Run the program either from the Desktop icon if you chose to install one or from Start > Programs. On the main screen select the Update icon followed by the "Update now" link and click on the Start Update button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

    When the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the window and click on the Settings tab.

    On the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then on Quarantine.

    Under Reports select Automatically generate report after every scan and deselect Only if threats were found.

    Close Ewido Anti-spyware. Do not run a scan just yet.

    Boot into Safe Mode and log onto your usual account.
    Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as this may interfere with the scanning proccess.

    Start Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or from Start > Programs and select the Scanner icon at the top of the window followed by the Scan tab and click on Complete System Scan. The scanning process will start and may take some time.

    When the scan is complete if any infections were detected you will prompted for an action - select Apply all actions.

    Then select the Reports icon at the top of the window and click on the Save report as button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and save it as a text file (be sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

    Close Ewido

    Stay in Safe mode and scan (only) with HJT and place a checkmark against this entry and click on Fix Selected ....

    Stay in Safe mode and delete the file ....

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\00947cb6.exe

    if it exists - you may need to enable view hidden and system files.

    If the file is present, but will not delete reboot into normal mode ....

    Download Killbox to your desktop - do not attempt to run it yet.

    Boot into Safe Mode and run KillBox and select Delete on Reboot

    Copy this list of file locations to your clipboard ....

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\00947cb6.exe

    Go to File > Paste from clipboard and Click All Files

    Press the button with a red circle with an X in it, then Yes when prompted to restart your computer.


    Scan again with HJT and post the log file along with the Ewido report.

    Please confirm that you fixed the line in HJT .....

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [00947cb6.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\00947cb6.exe

    and then deleted the file 00947cb6.exe located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\.

    There is no reference to that file on Google which implies that it is a random file which, if you deleted it, is being regenerated by some malware.

    While I seek advice elsewhere - and you confirm the above, I suggest you empty out all the temporary files located in your user profile ....

    Start > Run > type %temp% > OK and in the Explorer window which opens delete all the files. 2 or 3 will be in use and cannot be deleted.

    Clear out C:\Windows\temp - same rider re. files in use applies.

    Empty out your Temporary Internet Files.

    OK - we need to try this .....

    Temporarily disable Windows Defender - remember to turn it back on when we've finished.

    You were using an old version of SmitfraudFix (current version is 2.73, you have 2.55) and we did not see the scan log, only the fix log so would you please ....

    Please download SmitfraudFix and unzip the contents to a folder on your Desktop.

    Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd

    If a Security Warning pops up hit the Run button

    A command window appears > press any key to continue

    On the line with the flashing cursor 'Enter your choice (1.2 ....) type 1 and press Enter

    The program scans your system and when the scan has completed a Notepad window opens containing the scan report - a copy of this file is saved as C:\rapport.txt.

    Post the report, please. Do not run stage 2 yet - the fix.

    Since last post I fixed that file in HJT, deleted it again and cleaned out temp files but I haven't rebooted the computer. Here is the report from the new Smitfraudfix. Let me know if I should reboot and post a new SmitFix logfile

    The latest version of SmitfraudFix is not picking up anything at all so no need to go further with that.

    Reboot and scan again with HJT, post the log and let's see where we are.

    Your log is clean - are the original problems resolved?

    One last step ....

    Turn off System Restore, reboot and turn it back on again. Some of your restore points will be inevitably infected - turning off System Restore will delete all the restore points.
