Just upgraded to Windows 10. The upgrade went smoothly, but there were a number of strange glitches. All of the registers in my Quicken account were changed. Many icons were missing from the taskbar. And when I hit Start and Programs, 3 columns of programs come up, but that listing does not include any more programs. I cannot figure out how to access them. Most importantly, and the reason for this post, is that I am trying to get rid of the User Account Control or change the way it works. Every time I try to make any changes, a UAC box comes up asking me if I want to allow changes to be made. However, the only choice given is "NO." There is no "Yes." I have tried to modify the appropriate key in the registry (EnableLUA), but I am told that I am not allowed to make changes. If I try to delete this key that controls the UAC, I am told that changes cannot be made. I tried the suggestion posted here to call up the Windows Power Shell, but when the data comes up, I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it. I am not able to get into the screen that allows me to move the lever that indicates when I want to be notified if a program is changing. I have spent a long time looking at articles on the Internet, but they all make the same suggestions that do not work for me. I very much appreciate any help.

    Hi,

Lets try creating a new administrator account in Windows 10 and then see if we can change the UAC settings in Control Panel. Follow the instructions in this link, How to Add a Local Account or Microsoft Account in Windows 10.

Then once you have the new administrator account created, log into the account and then modify the UAC settings as outlined here, How to Change User Account Control (UAC) Settings in Windows 10. I would recommend setting the UAC setting to Notify me only when apps try to make changes to my computer (don't dim my desktop). When finished, reboot the computer and let me know how the computer is running.
