I just upgraded to windows 2K Pro (from Windows 98 SE) and it seems that it has either changed or erased my settings. I was able to surf with no problems before the upgrade and now nothing. I was on the phone last night with Bell Sympatico's tech support for almost 2 hours and he told me that my connection is fine on his end. He tells me that it's definitely a software issue. Can anyone guide me through this ??

My system > P2 350 MHZ with a 3 GB drive. I have 256 RAM with integrated sound and video cards. Ya I know...it's time for a new computer. But in the meantime, I'm quite happy with what I have since I only use my PC for surfing the web. Are there any programs I can download to help me fix this networking problem ? My router is not connected by the way. I've heard great things from this OS but I never expected this. :(

    upgrades

It can be a bit difficult upgrading from windows 98 /me to windows 2000.
You might of been better to do a new fresh install.
The streams of development are so diffirent.
Windows 2000 at the time did not make a bit impact .
Many of the people who used it did so just to be diffirent than the pack- bit of rebellion.
Although win 2000 laid the groundwork for xp it was deficient in the drivers available although now a lot of xp drivers are xp/2000 drivers.
    First
    1) ensure that the network card is enabled .
check the device manager that there are no question marks or exclamations.
If it is a modem windows 2000 plays a trick . It installs a " generic modem "- says it is working. But the modem is not installed and working .
You have to hunt out the driver for the modem . Look for its marking

    2) If the above is not the problem uninstall the tcip networking. Reboot and let it install.

As said a clean install would be preferrable

I figured it out fellas. It was a simple matter of just re-installing my Sympatico software and it worked. It seemed that the upgrade must have erased or changed my settings. Thanks for the tips.
