I have two computers, neither one too exotic but they serve the purpose. Both running Win95B. I call the one I don`t use so much my "Zip drive" and keep any data I don`t want to lose on it.
A friend of mine presented me with a brand new, still in the box, M.S. Cordless, two button, wheel mouse along with the Intellipoint CD. I can`t get it to work on the computer I use the most. On the one that failed me I removed the existing mouse in Device manager (It had the yellow exclamation point by it and had,had for some time) after removing it the mouse still worked but there is no mouse Icon in device Mgr.
I ran the CD`s installation wizard but the mouse didn`t work, tried it a couple or three times using the same same procedure.
Shut it down, installed the old mouse, turned it on and the old mouse still works fine.and still no Icon in device Manager. Windows never did detect a new device on this machine.

I removed the mouse from the Device Mgr on the " Zipdrive machine, shut it down, plugged in the new cordless mouse, windows detected it, installed the drivers and it works. Except for
the scroll wheel, I suspect it will after I use the CD`s drivers?
These computers are running the same Win95b. 64 M of ram and plenty of space on the hard drives. Did I leave enough clues to make sense? I don`t have to have the cordless mouse on my busy computer, it`s just the idea the darned thing should work.
    Any Ideas?

    Hi,

I ran into something like this a while back with an intellipoint mouse.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and seeing if a mouse/mice are listed there?

The cordless mouse gets some of it's drivers from the same basic files that a regular ps/2 mouse uses. So if you had an exclamation point with your previous mouse that may be part of your issue with your cordless.

I would boot into safe mode and remove any and all mice that are present in Device Manager. Shut the system down and connect your cordless mouse and then restart the system. If it detects and installs your mouse then run your intellipoint disk to install the extra features. We should be able to get it function as a basic two button mouse first though.

    Thanks Gary,
I have done what you told me to do only not in safe mode. After that procedure Windows did not detect a new device for the cordless mouse and the cursor would not move. I shut it down and plugged the old mouse in,restarted, and it works.
I`ll do it again in safe mode just to see if any thing happens
Under device manager there is no mouse icon to remove, I removed it when I saw the yellow exclamation mark previously.

I posted the results to the safe mode operation a couple of days ago but I must have done something wrong, I see it didn`t make the board.
I got the same results in safe mode, and didn`t find any mice to remove hiding anywhere in device mgr.
When I open the mouse file in control panel and click on the general tab, instead of seeing "standard PS2 mouse port" there`s three or four odd combinatios of symbols, example ?#88I they change to something different each time I click the change button. Any thoughts?
Sorry about the delay in reply, I try to always post results, good, or bad.

Maybe I should have posted this Query in The Win95 Forum?
