I added a hard drive from an old computer with a few files on it. I want to have a clean drive, but may need to put the folders back. I go to move them to another drive, problem is, I can't since I don't have administrator rights. I used the "net user administrator /active:yes" command, rebooted and it never gave me a chance to log on as administrator.

How else can I get administrator privileges to mover the folders?

    Chris.

Have no idea what version of Windows you use. This helps us in helping you solve problems. Each version of Windows is a little different in some things and some are exactly the same.
Have you tried to right click and choose Run as Administrator to see what happens?

I posted in Windows 7 forum. Sorry I didn't update my system.
I have no "run as administrator" but I did give it permission. After I do, it will not paste, because I don't have admin permission.

OK, thank you. I will try this. One problem is each folder has a whole bunch of files in it. When I do it to a folder, each file in the folder had to be done also. I will need to do this a hundred times.

Just tried and I got a error message (yellow exclamation point) that said, "access dined. "

Eh.... no. When you change the owner of the folder, click to select Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. That changes all the files in the folder.

    Are the files encrypted?

OK, I see it. Mine also has "Replace all child objects permissions with inheritable permissions form this object" box. Do I check this also?

When I put a check in, I get a message that says, "This will replace explicitly defined permission on all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from 63d739638370b4eb40eceo6d."

Should I check both and click OK when I get this message?

    Thanks for replying,
    Chris.

You are not in the right place.

You clicked the Advanced button on the Security tab, then you clicked Change Permissions on the Permissions tab.

Instead once the Permissions tab opens, you should select the Owner tab (step 3 in the article). Then use the Edit button to make the change.

Didn't work. I went in 'safe mode' and cut/pasted the files to my external drive and formatted.
    It worked in safe mode.

    Thanks for the reply's,

    Chris.
