A similar problem has been posted before by a Win2000 user but there's a missing part in the answers there (only a link is there that I can't open). I tried to guess what it was from the next reply but I still can't fix my problem. Here's my problem:

I changed the file association of my picture files so that I can edit them in my favorite softwares. I accidentally deleted the "JPG" item in the list of files association in the folder options. I tried to create a new one in the list but I am no longer able to view the thumbnails of JPG files in windows explorer even if I set view as web page (I can still open and edit them in various softwares). It's laborious opening each jpg file just to see how they look like. I am still able to view gif and bmp thumbnails.

Please help me. Thanks for any advise you can give me.

There's a small reg fix file available from this site to fix the thumbnail preview.

if you right click on folder then properties you can check 'enable thumbnail view' then open it and click view>thumbnails. don't know if it will stay that way, as mine doesn't, but it's still faster than opening each picture. maybe the reg fix Miz referred you to will work. I'll be checking that one out too if I can get my 98 back up and running.

ry1223--Maybe I misunderstand, but you seem to be saying that you still have thumbnails for .bmp and .gif, but no longer for .jpg. If my understanding is correct, that suggests you have lost .jpg files' association with a program (like IE, Irfanview, MS Paint, etc.) that will open them.
In Win98, the simplest fix for that is to hold down Shift and simultaneously right click on any .jpg file, chose "Open With... ", scroll to the program you want to use to open .jpg, highlight, check the box at the bottom "Always use this program.... ", click OK.
If Win2000 does not have that option, look for the procedure for associating files with a command program.
