 Greetings. Win ME. IBM 10/100 etherjet nic. My son is trying to get a home network going so he can play games over the LAN with his buddies. The games need the IPX protocol. But I can't seem to find it. This is where I'm going:
    Control Panel/Network/Configuration/add/protocol
It only shows the following two protocols available from microsoft.
    1) ATM call Manager
    2) ATM LAN Emulation

On the network configuration tab I have listed:
    1) Client: Client for microsoft networks
    2) Adapter: dial-up adapter
    3) Adapter: IBM 10/100 etherjet pci adapter
    4) Protocol: TCP/IP dial-up
    5) Protocol: TCP/IP ibm 10/100 PCI etherjet adapter
    6) Service: File and printer sharing for microsoft networks

How do I add the IPX protocol so we can play the games over the network?

    Thanks for the help.

Those ain't standard transport protocols neighbor. And IPX has shipped with every microsoft release since way back.

They have made a few changes with XP in that several of the old standard protocols don't list but you do have em on CD.

From the Microsoft Online Help section, when I selected ME and typed "add protocol" (without the quotes) I found a number of articles.

Q193637 is titled Network Components Missing in Network Tool in Control Panel (Q193637) and deals with the exact problem you are having. Cause and fix are clearly laid out there.

Newt, Sorry for the no reply. I've been away from home for the last several days (chaperone for a kids school event) and have not had a chance to check here till now. I'll leave a reply tonight when I get home.

Newt, Thanks for the link to M$ knowledgebase. This solved the problem. I restored Nettrans.inf to c:\windows\Inf folder any it gave me the IPX/SPX protocol I was looking for.

Thanks again and sorry for the delay in posting the results.

    :)

Anyway, glad it got you fixed up. Was interesting to me as well as I had never heard of this before researching to get an answer for your question.
