Have question for my friend: She can't turn computer on at all. She presses the ON switch, but nothing happens at all. She says computer is plugged in. Her daughter may have done something, but she isn't confessing. New computer with Windows XP.

Maybe the main power switch on the back of the tower has been switched off. Check that one, it's right on the power supply.

Thanks I'll tell my friend. Actually I thought that switch at back of computer was a Reset Switch (purpose unknown to me) but now I know that it's the Main Power Supply.

Toggling the main power switch didn't solve the problem. Could there be any other simple solutions?

Sometimes this works. Pull the AC plug out of the back of the box. Wait 10 seconds and then plug it back in and try again. Some of them have electronic shutdown ckts and won't reset unless you unplug the cord.

If it happens again, unplug all your stuff plugged into the back, (printers, mice , KB) and try to boot. One of them may be causing the PS to shut down. Maybe a Pepsi spilled into the KB?

If nothing happens you have to look at the wall plug and/or surge suppressor that it is plugged into. As a matter of fact maybe you should check that first.

    Questions to consider:

    1. Does the printer power up?
    2. Does the green led on the speakers light up?
    3. Is power reaching other peripherals?

If all of the above are negative, you may have a defective (or turned off) surge protector--try a different outlet, or wall outlet--try a different outlet.
