I have a WD 1 TB HDD backup. For some reason, it backed up far more than I specified, and from a total of 75gb of source, it created over 920gb of backup. WD support is looking into this. I deleted about 800gb of unwanted files with the WD utility, which went into the recycle bin.

When I went to empty the bin, it took about 10 minutes to list the 21,641 files, but it never completed. The green progress bar just keeps flashing at the 98% complete point and I am locked out doing anything to the bin.

Tried twice, but at 35 minutes of flashing I clicked on the "empty bin" and it asked if I really wanted to delete, to which I clicked Yes, and the hourglass comes up. Then nothing happens. At about 10 minutes the hourglass goes to normal cursor, and no files have been deleted. Did this twice as well so far.

There is nothing in the bin I want to preserve, so is there a back door that I can just delete the whole recycle bin without having to open it?

You might try booting into Safe Mode, then see if you can empty the bin.

    Bill,
Thought about that and was going to, tomorrow.
But I tried it a different way. Upto my post I was trying to delete the bin using the WD file utility. That just did not work.
So I clicked on the desktop recycle bin and did an empty from there. 20 minutes later, all files gone.

Hmmm, so once again Windows own native tools comes through. ;) Thanks for the update.

Yet the WD utility called up the Win 10 recycle bin utility, and then it crapped out after an hour of nothing happening, but it looked like it was working.
