i've spent a lot of time at tomcoyote and they've referred me here... we've cleaned my system of viruses and malware and i think i'm clean...

i've deleted (i think) all non-working versions of flash on my computer .. but can't seem to get anything to work.. before i deleted the old version - i would be referred to the adobe macromedia site to download the newest version and it would show that it was working correctly but when i went back to the site that needed the flashplayer - it still wouldn't work and would refer me back to the download.... now that i've deleted all the prior flash programs from my system - i get quotation marks where the working download is supposed to be ...

i'm at my wits end on this - i keep going back and forth trying various fix its - even searched this board and found a post similar to my needs two weeks ago and went through most of what's mentioned in that post but nothing is working...

i did have a working flash a couple of months ago and frankly - it's my 5 yr old son who is bearing the brunt of this - as none of his websites work without the flash player.

    can you help me?!
    please

rachelfran--I am not sure I understand just what the present situation is, so bear with me.
Uninstall Flash Player from Control Panel|Add/Remove.
Put www.adobe.com into your Trusted Sites (IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Click the icon for Trusted Sites|Sites|enter www.adobe.com|Add|OK. Make sure the box "Require Server Verification" is unchecked|OK.
    Go to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
Uncheck the box to also download Yahoo Toolbar. Click Install Now.
It should self install. Perhaps reboot. Is Flash now working?
    You can test it here
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/

Flash Player ver 9 is a problem

    I share your woes, Rachel.
I kept gettting directed to the Macromedia webpage - (now owned by Adobe)
I would go to download and nothing happens. What browser are you using? I had used netscape ver 8 when it first started happening this past summer. I then went back to IE6. It seemed hit and miss, and I'd still get the requests even after having bdowloaded it, or believed I had. Ned sites keep asking me to install Flash.
I have now downloaded and began using a new mozilla product called "Seamonkey" to use a as web browser. visit www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey
So far it seems to be working.

i am using IE6... though i have mozilla also on the computer and managed to get it to work yesterday for a time... i do often have shut downs on mozilla though so don't use it on a regular basis... i'd really like to just get flash working as it used to a couple of months ago and just can't wrap my mind around the fact that it doesn't.

    rachelfran--
Hmm. Somewhat strange. The image below shows what I see when I go to
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Is all you see a set of quotation marks? Can you post a screen shot? (Or duplicate using the key board?)

rachelfran--Christer beat me to it. I had forgotten that only WindowsBBS Subscribers can post screen shots. (Not a bad idea if you plan to use this forum.)
Are you absolutely sure that www.adobe.com is in the Trusted Sites list and that the link I gave you does not lead you to the Flash download page?
If so, can you verbally describe what you are seeing when you use that link? Post any error messages.

    when i click adobe.com i get a box that says :

the current web page is trying to open a site in your trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this?
    current site : www.windowsbbs.com
    trusted site : www.adobe.com

if i click yet - i go to the download page but i don't see the screen shot that was posted before...

if you send me your email address i can email you an attachment of what i see.

rachelfran--That error message is described here
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/zoneelev.htm
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/elevlocalfile.htm
But to simplify things, in summary:

Open Registry Editor (Start|Run|type regedit|OK) and navigate to:

    [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Lockdown_Zones\0]

Just to be safe in case you do not like the results, first backup the key to a REG file (File|Export).
Then in the right-pane, scroll to 2101. Now set the Value to 0.
The way you do that is to right click on the line for 2101|Modify|change the number in the Value Data line to 0|OK. You may have to reboot, but try to go the Flash download page now.

If this does not work, go to www.adobe.com and click on the "Get Adobe Flash Player" link.
If successful, with either of the above, remember to uncheck the Yahoo Toolbar link.

rachelfran--One last idea. Take www.adobe.com out of your Trusted Sites.
Click IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Default settings|Slider to Low. (Click off any box that suggests you not do this. Or if you cannot, go back to Security tab|Custom Level and change all ActiveX and Scripting settings to Enable|Apply|OK.)
Now see if you can reach www.adobe.com and download Flash.
If you cannot, I have run out of ideas, other than to use another browser as has been suggested, or create a new User account.
If you are successful, and Flash is installed, go back to Security tab, and change the Default Level slider to at least Medium.

P.S. A way to post a screen shot here is to create a webpage or use a webstorage site (like Image Shack
    http://imageshack.us/
    PhotoBucket
    http://www.photobucket.com/
or MyImageStation http://www.imagestation.com/member/join_mypictures.html?ru=/mypictures/ ), upload the screen shot to them and post the URL for that site here.
