    Hi everyone,

I got this problem. When I try to double click on a folder or a partition in Windows Explorer or My Computer, it doesn't explore/open it, but it start Winamp or JASC Paintshop.
I tried to change the action by going to Folder Option>>File Types>>File Folder>>Advanced,
I didn't saw the Actions "open" nor "explore ".
I know that something went wrong there, because I tried to custumize my XP icons, but it wasn't clearly not smart to do that. -_- "

    Hope anyone can help me.
    thnx in advantage

    RNK

Hi, RNKxBoA. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

If you have System Restore enabled, you or your computer may have created a System Restore Point prior to your icon editing excursion. (I think System Restore sometimes automatically creates its own System Restore "checkpoints ".)

If this is the case, then it might be easiest to restore your system back to a system restore point that was created shortly before you played with those Advanced settings.

I can't be certain System Restore keeps track of those File Types settings but I think it's worth a shot.

System Restore can be found via
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If this suggestion doesn't work for you, I'll defer to someone more experienced to help you out with this one.

    Hello RNK,

In the Folder Options > General tab:

In the Click items as follows section, is the Single click to open option ticked or is the double click option ticked?

    Have you tried Restore Defaults?

If you've done that because of the amount of disk space that SR uses by default - 12% of HD space, you can change the max space that SR allocates to itself:

    Right click My Computer
    Click on Properties
    System Restore tab

Highlight the C drive and click on Settings.

In the Disk space usage section, move the slider to the left and pick a percentage that SR will use at it's max size.

    Hi mailman,
    Yes it does.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi RNK,

The file association for .exe files is broken.

Go to http://www.dougknox.com/ and click on Win XP Fixes.

    Two fixes to try:

Look under EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files) and Search/Command Prompt Opens When Double Clicking a Folder. This last is not exactly your symptom, but the fix should return the registry to the defualt setting.

Before trying any fix, just in case the fix makes it worse, please create a System Restore point. In my rooting around for a fix for this problem, the general advice was to use System Restore to fix this. These fixes are for people who did not create a restore prior to making system changes. So take heed, use it.

    Regards - Charles
