    Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem deleting some files and would appreciate some help. I used to use Earthlink as my isp and have since changed isp's. My new isp utilizes Outlook Express (OE) for e-mail service. When I try using OE, it comes up asking me for my user name and password for Earthlink. I cancel the request and an error code comes up. I thought that when I cancelled Earthlink and removed the program from the add/remove program feature on my Win98SE that it was gone. I was wrong. I found 2 files inside a folder inside my Windows Applications file on my C: drive. I have tried to delete the files and folder both separately and together, with no success either way. I get a pop-up stating "Earthlink is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted." I know that Earthlink was not on the Win98Se install disk that I loaded my computer with, and that I loaded Earthlink from it's own cd. I don't understand what happened or how I can get it off my computer entirely. Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions, or links provided. I would be most grateful.

    I have a HP Brio w/ Celeron processor, 256 RAM, 4 gig C: drive, 20 gig D:drive, running Win98SE with IE6

Open OE, go to tools, accounts, mail tab. See if Earthlink is listed as an account, if so. Remove it.

    Thanks Aleekat,

I did have it listed, and by deleting it my e-mail problems were solved. However, when I choose the "find" option from my start button and put in "Earthlink" it still comes up with 2 files that when I try to delete, I receive the same popups as before and I can't delete the files. Any other suggestions?

Can you drag that folder to "my documents" and delete them from there? Or try renaming it, then delete.

Try booting to safe mode and delete them there.
