I have a notebook running Windows XP Pro. My Symantec Internet security program is flagging a "xxwvs.dll" file which references a trojan called "trojan.vundo ". I've gone onto Symantec website and they talk about using a removal tool.

I've tried the removal tool , followed the website notes and the dll is still there.
I've gone into 'regedit' and deleted several references of the xxwvs.dll, rebooted and its still there.
Gone into safe mode and removed the xxwvs.dll and its still there.
I've disabled all startups and removed the xxwvs.dll. Its still there.

    any ideas...
    Help
    Thanks.
    Bill

If you remove it and it is back when you reboot, then something is reinstalling it.

See if you can find what is installing it and remove that.

mattman--That is the point of spyware, virus and trojan removers. If you just remove the "effects" of their dirty work (in this case xxwvs.dll), you have not removed the "cause "--the actual spyware, virus or trojan . And they will just continue to do the dirty work.
The links I have provided are supposed to be removers of the spyware, virus or trojan.
Another free trojan scanner (and supposedly remover) is
