I installed XLViewer. I received a message saying that it can't be used with my version of Windows (I should have checked ahead of time and I have Win98SE). I followed Microsoft's instructions to uninstall it by going to Control Panel but it wasn't listed. I tried to delete xlviewer.exe but a message said that it is being used by Windows and that I couldn't delete it.

How can I get rid of it?

Thanks, I'll try it. I assume you mean simply to delete XLViewer.exe. But since the message says that Windows is using it I am assuming that when I tried to install it the XLViewer.exe file unzipped and began installing. I wonder if there is a way to determine that and if so, get rid of whatever has been unzipped as well as any registry entries, if any.

I downloaded msiuu.exe and ran it. xlviewer did not appear on the list. So I searched for xlviewer on the hard drive and found xlviewer.cab. I deleted it and ran xlviewer again and watched. It recreated the cab file and then repeated the "wrong windows" message. So, I suspect that the program hung up when trying to run whatever was in the .cab file. So, I deleted the .cab file again and the shortcut to xlviewer. Then I went into Safe Mode and deleted the xlviewer.exe. I think and hope that it's all gone now.

My only remaining problem is to find a program that will read .xls files either as an add-on to MSWorks or a standalone program running under Win98SE.

    Thanks again,
