1.) I am trying to delete already deleted items from Outlook (2003). I right click and delete the item from the list in my inbox display pane. Then a strikethrough appears on the item in the list of emails in my inbox display pane. However they will not delete, or go to my deleted items folder, they just continue to sit there with the strikethrough, even if I right click and click the struckthrough item. What am I doing wrong?

2.) Also, when I click receive emails, emails I have already downloaded from my ISP server REdownload, so frustrating to have several copies of the same email. I have tried to tell Outlook to delete from server upon download, but I can only find a setting for them to stay for a minimum of one day on the server. So if I get emails from my isp server in the morning, then check/download my emails again in the afternoon, any new emails that arrived inbetween will download, BUT the emails I downloaded that morning will REdownload. How do I stop duplicat downloads of the same email (meaning I do want to delete them from the server the 1st time I download them), so as to stop duplicate downloads. All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks, Tarheelfan001

    1) Try highlighting the mail and hit the delete key on your keyboard.

Sounds like you're using the IMAP protocol for your e-mail.
While online, after you delete the messages in your Inbox and the strikethroughs appear, click "Edit" and then "purge deleted messages ". This will remove (purge) all of the deleted messages from both your Inbox and the server and should solve both your problems.
Lookup "IMAP" in the OL help file for a good overview of how IMAP works (it's different than POP3).

    Regards,

    Problem Solved

    Thanks Steve and Erronius,

Steve I had tried that to no avail. Erronius, I have pop3 account with my isp, so the imap was not applicable.

I deleted the mail account in Outlook, and then when I tried to delete the messages I got a warning about headers on the isp server may no longer exist, who cares, lol. Anyway after I deleted the mail account in Outlook, I was able to delete the already deleted/struckthrough emails. Whew finally. I did recreate the account in Outlook, and it works fine so far. I wish I knew what caused the problem to start with. Once again thanks for your suggestions.

Holding shift and the delete key usually works well for me.
