After repartitioning my hard drive and reinstalling XP Home plus all its updates, I can no longer create shortcuts to Notepad and Paint.

Right clicking on either of them does nothing.

Does anyone know why this may be?

Have you tried creating shortcuts on the desktop and filling in the path to notepad.exe, paint.exe?

Ah, yes. I did it with Notepad, so it is reasonable to assume I can do it with Paint.

However, I would still like to know why I can't do as I have always been able to do before.

My God, just noticed how many posts you have made. Impressive.

I used to be very active on several electronics forums sites but withdrew from them.

How are you attempting to create the shortcuts?

What happens when you click on the Start button->All Programs->Accessories->Right click on MS Paint and select Send to Desktop?

As I said in my original message "Right clicking on either of them does nothing. "

    Nothing.

No options window or any other window opens.

Check this setting: Right-click your Taskbar, select Properties, select Start Menu tab & click the Customize button. Select the Advanced tab and make sure that Enable dragging and dropping under Start menu items is checked.

Thank you Arie, that's cured it.

Now, I wonder why it wasn't already enabled, as it always seems to have been in the past after I reinstalled? Another Microsoft mystery.
