I'm trying to install XP Professional from a new Upgrade CD, but I did a full install, not an upgrade. The computer previously had XP Home Edition on it. It got past the reboot and disk format, and it's copying files. But I'm getting a message "Setup cannot copy the file: rio8drv.sys" on a blue screen.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the CD. Can someone suggest how I can get around this problem? Can I skip the file and copy it from somewhere else later?

    Thanks for any help.

Best I can tell, that's a USB related driver. It's contained in the i386 folder inside the DRIVER.CAB file and can be extracted from there. Possibly you could get it after the install completes.

Verify that you have all peripherals unplugged (especially USB ones) while doing the install. That might be the problem.

I find it located in my system at two places:

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dllcache\rio8drv.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\rio8drv.sys

    Good luck.

OK, thanks. I have a very specific use for this machine, for trying out a few databases. If it only disables USB I may be able to get by without it. I'll proceed with skip. If it doesn't work, I can always start it over, since there is nothing to lose on the disk.

    Thanks again.
