On my xp machine, I want to gathering all my photos over the years, I have three ext HDD's and wanted to copy/move them to a ext HDD for transferring the files to w-7 later. On xp I used search>pictures, music, video,>pictures photos, 20035 were found. Show all hidden files and folders were unchecked during the search. I tried to send, copy, drag them to a HDD but no matter what I did I keep getting "error source file or disk cannot be found.

I can drag, send or copy one at a time. I tried to see the total size by edit>select all>file > properties but just the hour comes up for a minute or less then goes away.

Am I trying to copy/move to much data.

    Any all ideas welcome..

Sounds like you are trying to do to many at one time. Hover the mouse over the first one and then hold down the SHIFT key and go down to about 100 of them and they should all highlight like the first one was. Then right click on the group and do what you want to do with them. This is part of the problem of having so many to do at one time. I will take a hundred pics at say a grandkids birthday party or something else and then download them to the PC and then do what I said above to a G-Mail account that I have for this reason and then also do them to either a thumb drive or a DVD. Takes a little while to do this, but it is worth it in the long run. Just be glad that your PC didn't crash with all that on it and you would of lost EVERYTHING.

Your method worked, but it will take me a week. I'll hunt down the folders and go from there..

    Thanks
