I have no trouble connecting from Win 8 to XP, but XP will NOT show files from Win 8.

On XP machine I can see the computer name of the Win 8 machine, but I can't access any of the files, pictures or other items I have shared.

I noticed on the XP machine the Group is called WORKGROUP but on the Win 8
machine it's called HOMEGROUP. How can I change HOMEGROUP to WORKGROUP on the Win 8 machine?

P.S. If this is a matter of two different group names, then why can I see the computer name of the Win 8 machine, yet I can't access the files, etc.?

UPDATE: I checked the workgroup name on the Win 8 machine and it is called workgroup, however under file and network sharing it's called HomeGroup.
This is located to the right side of the network and sharing screen where you have,

    Access type: Internet
HomeGroup: Joined (Should this say WorkGroup: Joined?)
    Connection: Ethernet

I have no problem accessing the XP computer from the Win 8 computer, I can't access the Win 8 computer from the XP machine.

UPDATE: For some reason Win XP cannot see the Homegroup created by the Win 8 machine but Win XP can see the Win 8 PC and the basic shared folders. My solution was to copy some folders and place them as subfolders to the main folders that the Win XP machine can see. Since Win XP can't see the Homegroup, I removed the Homegroup from the Win 8 machine. So far it's working.

Any idea why the Win XP machine cannot see the Homegroup created by the Win 8 machine?

I found some helpful information regarding Homegroups and Workgroups.
    Link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/join-or-create-a-workgroup

Both my XP and Win 8 machines have the same workgroup name but because Win 8 creates a homegroup and Win XP created a workgroup they can't function as part of the homegroup created by Win 8. I'm stuck on trying to figure a way to make XP part of the Win 8 homegroup.

Because only Windows 7 and Windows 8 are compatible with HomeGroups. Other operating systems don't have the needed 'bits'...

    You can't.

You need to use 'normal' file sharing.

That update will not install on Service Pack 3 (its an update for SP2), but there is also a Microsoft Hotfix available to install the package on SP3.

Details are in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 922120.

But I have no problem with my Windows XP SP3 without that update, as it only addresses:

A "network diagram" (Network Map) is not part of Windows 8. It was part of Windows Vista and 7.
