    Okay here's the problem.

I can't seem to connect to the internet using windows 2000 however win 98 works fine and the settings are the same.

The message says "Dial tone not detected" but i can use win98 and it detects the dail tone and connects with no problem.

Everything is exactly the same for both but only one works. I've tried windows help and it just says to make sure the line is plugged in at the wall and the comp and that the line isnt faulty. GREAT help that was. Now I'm clueless!

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

More information, hardware specific would be useful....
but in the mean time look in device manager, make sure windows actually detects the modem and that there is no conflicts.
Check your drivers for the modem...
