I'm running windows XP home. The desktop is running windows XP home. When I go into network places I can see the shared docs folder on the desktop but can't access it.

when i click view workgroup i get an error that says "Weldon is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the server administrator to find out if you have access permissions. Network path not found. "

I've always had this set up so I could see the shared docs folder and use the printer. Now I can't.

And it's all after getting help with some malware removal on SaferNetworking Forums and fixing a problem on here with Windows Update. I'm not sure exactly WHEN it went bad, because I was focused on those other problems for almost a week.

    Please help!

Evidently a setting got changed during the "˜fixes’.
Like everything there’s several ways to do things.

You can delete (disable) the network then use the network wizard to reset it up.

    OR

    Turn off all firewalls.
Click on your network properties "“ make sure File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks is enabled.
Go to Control Panel "“ User Accounts "“ Enable the Guest Account.
    Try it.

    If no good then:
You didn’t mentioned network config. Wired or wireless, thru a router, direct? Are computer IP numbers assigned by router (DHCP) or static?
Do the 1st 3 octets of computer IP numbers all match (xxx.xxx.xxx.---)?
Can check that by start-run-cmd - type in: ipconfig/all.
Make sure they also match routers local (LAN) ip address.
