    Dear All,

You'll have to excuse my ignorance but I have only just installed windows server 2003 SBS for use with 3 client computers and I don't have any IT experience from and administrators point of view.

I have added a user/client computer to ensure I can get things working/become familiar before I do anything like try and connect the 3 main clients and totally scr*w us all up.

The problem I'm having is that before I added the user and client computer I had access to the Companyweb in sharepoint (via the Server) which was automatically set up as the home page as part of the isntallation.

Now that I have added a client computer, I have no connection to the companyweb. I can surf the web on the server and the client without issue. The client can recieve emails, but they don't seem to be leaving via Exchange. The client has a fixed IP address and the server has two network cards, one for internet access (1), the other for LAN (2).

The ADSL/Router is the gateway and refers to my ISP for DNS resolution. My Internet Network Connection (1) refers to the the ISP as preferred DNS. The LAN Network Connect (2) refers to (1) as the preferred DNS Server?

I notice in the bottom right corner of my screen that I have an SQL Server Services Manager icon and when I place my mouse over it i get the "Not Connected - \\" help text. When I double click it I have no options in the dropdown box for a Server nor any Services. The checkbox for auto start when OS starts is checked.

When I look at IIS and select Web sites I have the following info:

    - Default Website & companyweb have an IP of te server assigned and running.
    - Microsoft Sharepoint Administration is Started with NO IP address assigned.
    - Microsoft Central Administration is Running with NO IP address assigned

Can someone point me in the right direction as to possible issues as various searches across the net and MS Knowledge Base haven't really helped with regards to connecting to companyweb site.

    Many Thanks,

    Paul

p.s. the Server will essentially be a file server and for email. All our clients have fixed addresses as well, ie. no DHCP is being utilised.

    Welcome to the forum Paul.

This looks like the classic problem that arises if you use your internet domain name space for your internal domain. See this thread for example:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=59272

    Assuming this is the problem:

If you are experimenting and able to start again, one solution is to wipe the system and start again, using a different domain name for your internal network. So instead of using company.com, you may use company.local (.local domain names are recommended for small private networks).

However, there is a very good chance that you don't want to do that (especially if you've started using the system already). In which case you need to tweak your DNS settings. You need to add an A host record to your domain. In the thread I've linked to above, I've described how to do this in DNS admin. You'll need the IP address of your company website. I expect the host name will need to be www (unless your company website address doesn't start www).
