Pretty weird. When I have only Netscape window open, I can close it, open again, if I wish, with no problem.
Any time I have also e-mail window open, I'm not able to close Netscape.
    It goes like this:
When e-mail window is minimized, I can right click it, click "Close" and it seems to dissapear. Then I close Netscape, and its window dissapear, too. However when I go CAD, Netscape is still there. I have to go CAD EXACTLY 4 times to be able to close it.
Now, when e-mail window stays maximized, when I click on "x" to close it, everything freezes. Again, I have to go CAD 4 times to close it.
There are no other problems, and after all this I can reopen Netscape without a problem.
I know, Ramona is gonna say, that I have only this kind of wierd problems, which don't happen to anyone else..LOL

    Hi broni,

Are you sitting too close to your TV when Taken is being viewed? (SciFi miniseries currently playing) ;)

Four times for the CAD, huh? Boy, you do come up with some doozers! Minimized and maximized windows should have no bearing whatsoever on closing. If you are in Newsgroups, that is a horse of a different color. You will experience a "Phantom" Netscape, and even a crash. Short of doing the basic maintenance, compacting folders, cleaning up your debris, which you do frequently, I can only suggest either creating a new Mail Folder, and if that doesn't work, then a new Profile.

Let me know, and if you decide to create a new Mail Folder, I'll talk you thru it.

Are you using 7.01 or 7.0?

Someone told me already about "Taken ". What is it all about anyway?
It shouldn't make a difference min or max, but it does.
    No newsgroups.
Using 7.0. I downloaded 7.01 last night. Do you think it may straight thing up if I install it over 7.0?
I have to check one more thing. I have my Zone Alarm figured in such a way, that it cuts off any Internet activity (Cable), when screensaver kicks in (30 mins of inactivity). It just came into my mind to see if same kind of "freeze' happens before Internet is cut off. My mail is checked every 10 mins, so maybe it's some kind of connection here.
    I'll let you know.

I just checked, and that Screensaver/Zone Alarm thing doesn't make any difference. I'll try to install 7.01 tonight, and I'll let you know.

    Hi broni,

If you're having problems, I definitely would not recommend installing 7.01 over 7.0. Instead, do a clean install, use a new Profile. MHO ;)

BTW, I have encountered problems in my Mail, and elsewhere. See this Screen Shot. Restarting Netscape gets rid of the corrupt icons, but it shouldn't be happening. I have also noted that my Mail Notification says I have mail, but there is none visible. I only find it when I open the Mail folders. This seems to be quite common among other users as well. I have deleted *.msf files on several occasions, which is a quick fix, but not long lasting. My conclusion is, that the longer you use the Mail & Newsgroups, the more corrupt it becomes. Not a good recommendation for the Mail component.

    Thanks for a warning.
I'll stay put, then. My problem is not anything major, it's more of an annoyance. I definitely can live with it for now.

I have had the problem also.

But I found NETSCP to be hung up in CAD and it takes several tries to close it down. And even then Mail nor NS will restart.

A bit of a suggestion and Caution here.

When this happens I find it best to restart Windows before doing anything as other things are messed up. Even IE.

It raised all sorts of problems with this BB if Windows is not restarted.

At least the above is my findings.

Next time I will let things set a bit and see if it closes itself down.

I had even un-installed and re-installed but problem still exists.

See, the thing in my case is...CAD doesn't mess up anything....In 4th try (always 4th try), Netscape closes, then I can operate my computer without a problem. I can start Netscape again, like nothing happened.

    Hi broni

I also had a similar problem for about two day. When I closed multiply displays via "exit" N7 and or system would hang up. Then I noticed it did NOT show this behavior if I started the multiply closes from the "Mail" view. Then I remembered I had changed a setting in my Netscape Web Mail account. I had put a tick in
"Empty Trash on Exit ". I "removed" the tick, the problem stopped. IF your using that option, you might want to take it out.

    Guess what?
    IT WORKED, MAN!!!!!
I also have two accounts, one from my ISP, second one through Netscape (web based address). I unchecked "Empty trash on exit" in Netscape account, and voila, it closed.
    I owe you a bunch!!!!!
    Happy :D Broni

    Hi broni

Glad it worked for you. I've become somewhat watchful to any account changes I make in N7 WebMail. I use this account for my "Must provide a email" request at various sites. With a very tough filter system, most received email ends up in trash... where it belongs. So THIS WEEK I decided to use the "Empty Trash" option to delete out the 70+ daily spam emails automatically.... well we both know how well that works!!.
I chose NOT to post the problem / solution since I never seen the problem posted on any of the N7 forums. I felt it was just one of them... profile/XP/N7/moon to dim/sun to bright kind of problems unique only to my computer. When I seen your post, well go figure.
Could a few of you kind folks SETUP this bug and repeat the error/solution. Post back with your results. If it is a software error, we can then report the issue to Netscape.
PS... Hey Ramona... "I've been Taken" Goood mini-series!!!

I set that account for the very same reason. Then when I realized, they give you only 5MB of space, I figured, it would be nice to have it emptied automaticaly.
But now, when you gave me a solution for freezing, I'm pretty sure what the problem is.
"Empty trash on exit" would empty your trash if that folder was located on your computer, but it's not. It's on Netscape server. So your e-mail agent is looking, looking, looking to find that trash bin, and can't find it (on your computer). Since e-mail program stays busy, it can't be closed. Now it's easy for me to see why Netscape window would close, but e-mail window not (even if it dissapeared from your view, it was still open in CAD).

    Kudo's to you Dennis!!!

    Hey Dennis,

Excellent troubleshooting there, and thanks for giving us the fix!

I will probably add that to my Solutions page, in the event I start seeing more of this happening. That's interesting, as I have that feature enabled too, and I've had the "Phantom" NS a couple of times. I am going to disable it and see if it cures any other problems as well....

    Ramona :D

P.S. Taken was excellent, and I would like to see it again w/o the commercials!

    I noticed one more thing.
When you start your e-mail client, if you don't check your messages in "@netscape.net" account (kinda forcing your e-mail to connect to Netscape mail server), mail notification won't work for that account (works OK for primary account).

    Hi broni...
Gee my works exactly.... opposite. As soon as I load mail program, Webmail is issuing new mail notice, my default ISP mail sits there until I click the "Get message" key or the "Check for Msg" timer cycles. .. and yes account IS status to check MSG's at startup, just never worked. If I load mail program and touch no buttons in the program, I will get issue's at browser view for new arrived ISP or Web mail. Just like my wife... it's the "Little thing's" that makes you love them.:D ;) :)
