Canon multipass 5500 printer not working on Windows 98

I am using windows 98 and a canon multipass 5500 printer. I cannot get the printer to work. The system tells me it is on comport2 and is the default printer. I have goneinto the canon website and downloaded drivers for the multipass 5500 but it still won't print. Any help is appreciated, I have exhausted my limited knowledge.--Thanks

 

Is it on com port 2? I have that printer and it is parallel port.

 

It is a parallel port, on lpt1

 

I haven't used that printer in a while, but where does it tell you that it is com port 2 and where does it say lpt1?
You probably also know that you need to start the server before anything will happen with that printer. Do you get any error message when you start the server?

Have you used a printer on that computer before (wondering about the BIOS settings for the lpt port)?

 

I was mistaken when I said comport, it is connected to lpt1. I upgraded to 2000pro and had nothing but trouble with it. I could not print then. I had no problem with 98 before. I finally used my recovery disk and went back to all original settings, win98 etc. I had no problems printing before I upgraded. When I try to install now, I get msg. Printer cannot be installed, driver(Canon Printer) could not be loaded. Driver or inf file may be damaged. I downloaded win98 printer drivers from canon website but still cannot print.
