    Hello everyone!

I have a question on how to view the "attached thumbnails" that appear occasionally in forum postings? I suspect it has something to do with my firewall (I have E-Trust EZ Firewall 2005 installed), but am still in the learning stages with how to let it accept items.

If anyone could explain to me how/what settings I would need to change in order to view these thumbnails, I would really appreciate it! I have tried searching on their website, but can't seem to find anything that would help me (maybe not using the correct wording for doing a search?)

I also cannot seem to use/insert "smilies" when posting here. When I click on any of them, it just takes me back to the top of my post (again maybe my firewall?)

    Thanks!
    Vicki

I just created this thread with a pic attachment.
    http://windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=45353

All you have to do is click on the pic and a NEW browser window opens.

    Which browser are you using?

Adding smilies of course is done while typing in a thread:eek:

    No luck...

Thank you Steve for replying to my question. I did not, however, have any luck with trying to click on the pic as you suggested. (I even tried right clicking on it, but the option to open in a new window was greyed out.)

    My browser is IE 5.5.

Just a little curious about the smilies, wasn't there an option available at one time where you could click on the smilie you wanted and it would appear in your post? (I know I had inserted smilies on some posts I made a loooong time ago, but because I do not know what characters are needed to type in order to have them appear, I questioned this).

    Thanks again!
    Vicki

Look just below the reply window when creating a post at the 'Additional Options' and see if you have 'disable smilies in text' box checked.

Do you see the smilies box to the right of a reply window?

In Steve's posted thunmbnail, do you get options to save picture, set as background, save target.........anything?

Why are you still using 5.5?

    Firewall the cause?

I think I've come to the conclusion that my firewall is the cause of my not being able to view the thumbnails. I shut it down (more out of curiosity) and wallah! there they are! (I can actually see the pic now--with firewall activated it would only show up as an elongated box with the "attached thumbnail" printed above it) And now when I click on it, it opens up to a new window.

I can also insert the smilies in my posts just by clicking on them and not having to type the characters. :) (The disable smilies in text option was never checked).

Of course I do not wish to keep my firewall turned off, so can anyone offer any suggestions on how I can keep my firewall running and still view these thumbnails?

I did also download to IE 6.0, but on a dial-up connection it took (what seemed like) forever!

    Thanks again!

I use Zone Alarm for my firewall. It has a Program section where I can tell it to allow or not allow programs to access the internet.

You'll need to look through your settings for a similar option.

    Got it fixed?

Well I think I now have it fixed. I used your suggestion Steve, by trying to adjust my firewall settings to allow access to this site. Still not totally sure on what I did to fix it, but at least it seems to be working now. :D

(And I can now also insert those smilies with just a click! )

    Thanks for your help!
