I am new to computers and am having problems galore.

First, I have tried to use system restore at different times and the computer goes the the process but at the end it says cannot restore, pick a different date. No matter what date I choose this happens.

Second problem is with Adobe Reader.. I tried to download the lastest version and it will not complete because I cannot delete version 7.0 I am not sure if this question is in the right posting area.

    Thanks for any help:):):):)

gethumble - Welcome to the Board :)

It sounds like you have corrupted restore points. If you are running Home follow the instructions here ....

    System Restore Not Functioning

Please post only one problem per thread - start a new thread in the Other Software forum re. Adobe Reader.

Also if you have Norton/Symantec Anti-Virus the restore function won't work unless the Create point is saved with Norton AV disabled.

Hi gethumble, If you have Norton AV or IS, just double click on the Norton Symbol on the Task Bar. It will open and in the top center you should see two files. On NIS you click on Norton Internet Security>Settings>click on AV setting and it will offer you the choice of switching off the system. You can choose from the default 15 mins to whatever time you want. I hope I've got this correct as I had Norton installed and recently removed it completely as it was hogging too much system resources and causing very long start up times. I now use AVG. (Grisoft.com) Hope this helps and if I've got it wrong Pete will possibly set you right. Neil.

You need the Norton Removal Tool to remove all the bad AV stuff that Norton/Symantec leaves in the Registry.

If you think that just doing an Add/Remove on a Norton/Symantec product (eg Anti-Virus) clears it out you are sadly mistaken.

A year or so ago I removed System Works, added AVG (anti-virus) and then re-installed System Works WITHOUT ANTI-VIRUS and all my slow/lock-up problems were solved. My computer guru said that only the NAV puts stuff in the registry and the rest is ok.

robls99, gethumble only wants to disable NAV so that he may follow your suggestion in your 1st Post. He may decide to uninstall later if he finds problems with it. As I read it he couldn't get System Restore to operate - Mike Flynn Posted a very good set of instructions to follow if/when you want to get rid of Norton from your computer. I used them recently and Posted how pleased I was with the result. I'm now using AVG and plan to clean NAV from my wife's PC in the near future. Neil.;)
