i just got dell computer with xp, and i know that the file system is NTFS. but i cannot use it to set up permission for my share folder. the only option is to share that folder to allow other users to read or can modify. I want to set up permission based on the user group. how can i do?

    Any information is highly appreciated.

You didn't say but this sounds like an issue with XP-home.

If so, boot into safe mode. For some strange reason, the security tab is present in folder properties there and not when booted into normal mode.

If you are running XP-Pro, turn off "simple file sharing" since it has very few security options. XP-Home, you won't have a choice since it will only do simple file sharing.
