Hi, I wasn't sure if this should go in this forum or under maybe another. I am running Windows xp pro. I have a printing question. I have a printer hooked up to a 2nd maching also running xp pro. It is plugged in throught the usb. I have shared it out and can print from my pc without a problem. The problem comes in when trying to stop a job that has been sent. Is there anything out there which can kill a job quickly? Seems when it gets to a certain point I cannot stop it. Should be something to send throught the software to stop it I would think. When I go to the printers in the Start Printers and Faxes menu and click on the printer it doesn't show the job in the window...I think it has already gone throught this point to the printer. Anyway ....If you could give me any IDEAs I would be greatful. I have even tried the latest print driver which didn't help. The Printer is a HP Deskjet Color Printer Model 842C.
Have a good one!! Talk to you soon.

If the print job is no longer showing in the printer window then it has all gone into memory on either the printer or the print server (depending on how you are set up).

At that point, you pretty much need to power off the printer, wait a few seconds, and power it back on.

If the job was in printer memory, that's the end of it. If the job resumes when you power the printer back on, the job is being stored somewhere else and you need to figure out where that is being done.

It's hard to stop any computer via the software since the jobs are normally spooled before running. That gives limited access and no "real time" access.

What I do is the old fashioned way - either switch the printer off or pull all the paper from the tray. The former works instantly and the latter after the current page finishes. :) Then you will have plenty of time to go clear the que if needed. Of course those methods require you to be close by the beast and that may not apply in your case. Printers can be strange at times.

joezep1--I have had two HP printers. Go to Control Panel|Printers and Faxes|left click on the printer in question. On the toolbar of window that appears click Printer. You will have the choice to Pause Printing, Cancel all Documents, etc. Pause Printing will still allow whatever page is printing to continue, but printing should stop thereafter. You then want to Cancel all Documents. And finally you must re-enable Printing so your next job will print.
However, I do not know if all this will work on networked printers. My printer is directly connected to my one PC.
