Running NT4 SP6 on a Pentium II-400MHz. Have had it on this machine for some time. Today I went to Windows Update to get new security patches (well, it SEEMED like a good idea....) .... so I installed the patches WinUpdate recommended. Now, when I restart the machine, I get the startup box "Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to logon ", but the keyboard and mouse are dead. Also a box pops up saying "Service Control Manager: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the Event Log for details." That's it. I cannot get into the machine!........ Note, this machine is the server for a small LAN and while it is sitting in this state, I can at least access the shared files from other machines. But how do I log on?????? Help!

You can access remote event logs from any NT system. Good idea to take a look and see if there is a specific error that points to the problem.

If not, a current ERD may bail you out.
