I have an ACER E15 laptop that I cannot start from a USB Flashdrive.

The user attempted to do a refresh on Win 8.1 and it failed. When it starts it immediately goes to a Windows repair attempt but fails.

I have 8.1 on a flash drive but when I change the boot order to the USB it ignores it and goes to the Windows Boot Manager and then to the repair screen.

If I attempt to repair from a USB device in the Windows repair options, it restarts and goes to the boot manager again.

I was thinking that pulling the HDD and wiping it then attempting the USB install might work but I thought I would ask for suggestions first.

    Thanks

Hi cspgsl. If you have already set the USB drive as the first boot device and the laptop isn't booting to it then wiping the drive first and starting over from scratch is a possible solution that you could try.

Is there an option in the UEFI to enable Legacy boot mode?

Try enabling the Legacy boot mode and then set the USB flash drive as the first boot device.
